Hello everyone!

I know I can't believe that I haven't done a journal in over 2 years! Although it's not like I wasn't here at least a little bit on most days. I just haven't written a journal.

So what has been going on? I'll hit on a few key points.

Work has been going well. Very well actually. I didn't know just how much I would like working in retail. It isn't perfect of course, there's a lot to not recommend it. But I have great, supportive coworkers who are like family and when I really get to help someone it's a great feeling. And I'm good at it too. The store leaders see I can handle hard work and responsibility and they give me more responsibility. I'm working at a place where my bosses see my value and want to teach me things and they let me learn for myself too. I'm respected and integral in my workplace in a way that I haven't been before. I might not be making a lot of money but that's fine because of something I will hit on in a little bit. The Corona Virus has caused some craziness at my store since we are a convenience store with a pharmacy which makes us an essential business. It is pretty stressful and we're all a bit on edge now. But it's still a good job.

I'm also taking classes at a Community College to become a paralegal. Unfortunately, I have yet to encounter adventures and shenanigans as portrayed in the TV show Community. Not a blanket or pillow fort in sight.  But I'm doing very well in my class and I'm enjoying it as well. I'm hoping this will lead to a career where I can make a fair amount of money. Which doesn't mean my writing will stop. I actually recently paid a real editor to look at some of my stories. So that's neat.

What's going on with you? How are you all surviving the virus out there?

Maybe you'll be celebrating tomorrow, maybe your celebrations have already happened. All I want to say is I hope you and your families have a happy and safe holiday season.

Let's have a great 2018 too!

Lately I've been re-reading the archives of my very favorite web comic, Something Positive. If you aren't familiar with it here's the link: www.somethingpositive.net/inde…

A word to those who might not be comfortable with very dark humor...if you can't make it past the first comic...it only gets worse from there. Or better if you enjoy dark humor.

I have been reading it since the Fall of 2004 and every few years I take a trip through the archives. This time however I started not at the very beginning...It just happened that way. I always have a good time when I do this. The comic has been there for me in the best times and the worst. It's one of those things where I just remember where I was the first time I was reading them. Not all of them of course but you know what I mean.

I hope you like it too!

I had a very, very cool encounter the other day. I met Neil Gaiman. He was in town and was giving a talk. I got my tickets for it months ago, of course. It was fantastic. So, I know where to wait for people at this venue and so I waited for him and read the book I wanted him to sign (Smoke and Mirrors). So I waited for an hour (it's not like I had anywhere to be) and wouldn't you know it...he signed it right in front of me! And I got to tell him how he has been very influential to me. Also I told him to have a safe trip.

He's just about the coolest guy you could imagine him to be!

I also am gearing up for another convention in August. There are going to be so many comic book people there! It's going to be fantastic! Unfortunately, Adam West was supposed to be there. As cool as it would have been to meet him...it will still be cool to meet Burt Ward.

I'm still working on finding full time work. Any suggestions would be helpful to me!

Until next time folks...

I had an epiphany sometime last week.

I realized I was the only one holding back my happiness.

I was making myself somewhat miserable about my lot in life. No job, my efforts to publish my book have stalled for the moment, certainly no significant other.

But I realized that the key to happiness is to just be happy.

And I have plenty to be happy about.

So I've been living everyday since my epiphany with that thought. I'm feeling more at peace with my place in life and in the world. Sure things might look a little bleak today but they'll pick up soon. I have to keep believing that.

One of the good things is all of you on here! I really appreciate all of you.

I've uploaded a new story called The Crossroads. It is a birthday gift for my friend majorkerina and I hope everyone reads the stories that she writes.  There are links in the story description of The Crossroads. She is an amazing writer and a fantastic person.

In other news I'm addicted to some games on my phone.

Here are three of them:

Final Fantasy Record Keeper
Have you ever wanted to play a game with all of your Final Fantasy favorites in pixel form? And play through the stories of all of the FF games and collect all kinds of things and use awesome special moves? It is fair amount of leveling you can do for both the characters and weapons and armor. If you like that stuff...well this is the game for you!

Fire Emblem Heroes
If you like tactics games then you already know Fire Emblem is one of the best. But this game might be so fun it should be illegal due to the time you might waste just exploring how best to use which characters in which situations and how best to level up your teams. Seriously, I lose all track of time when playing this one. But dang it, the thing is fun so why not play? Maybe I should just cut back a little...

Magium
If you like fantasy then you have to play this game. It's a text based adventure, and it sweeps you right up. There's not really anything that new about it. But with fun characters going on interesting adventures you'll just get caught up in the story. The best recommendation I can give it is this: I want to keep reading it because I want to find out what happens next to the characters. What are you waiting for?! Get to playing this game!

Speaking of fantasy stuff...if you are looking for a great podcast check out Hello From the Magic Tavern. It's all about this guy Arnie who fell into a portal behind a Burger King which sent him to a magical land called Foon. There, using a WiFi signal from the Burger King, Arnie does a weekly podcast with his co-hosts Chunt a shapeshifting talking badger and Usidor the Blue Wizard. You'll be bingeing it in no time! Here's the link for it: www.earwolf.com/show/hello-fro…

Have a good one folks!

Yesterday was a pretty good day! I went to see the anime movie Your Name. I wholeheartedly endorse the film and you should see it while you still can if you are lucky enough to live near a theater that's playing it. It really made me feel something! I'm probably going to go see it again soon.

Today started like a normal day. Well I was a little late getting out of the house but that's not really a big deal. Work (such as it is...the now usual 3 hours, 3 days a week.) was boring but mercifully felt short (maybe it will be again tomorrow). Then the trouble started when I needed to go to a government office...after first passing the correct building and then driving to a wrong building on the other side of the city. Then I got back in the car and went to the right building again and of course the parking meter machine doesn't work so I'm risking a ticket. I go inside and find out...the office closed 2 hours earlier than my arrival. Also I hadn't eaten any lunch yet. Oh and I forgot to mention the guy driving the wrong way down a one way street.

Oh but that's not all folks! When I get home I think things are over and I can relax, I find out my health insurance has dropped me without warning. I tried to call to straighten things out but of course it was too late and the office was closed by the time I found out about the problem. Also I'm apparently not even in the system...

Oh and I got a small cut right between my knuckles. Look luck keeping a band-aid on there.

Sometimes you just gotta laugh...oh well the day isn't over yet. Plenty of good things could happen.

Hope everyone else is having a better day than me!
